2nd annual "La Semaine du Goût" held in October.
The food education movement that
has been held since 1990 in France was held in Japan for the second time this
October. A total of 165 chefs and patissiers visited 72 elementary schools -
spread throughout 21 prefectures across the country - to teach children about
the importance of flavours, using the "Leçon de Gout" curriculum. Various other
events exploring the joys of taste were held as part of "L'atelier du Gout" and
"La Table du Gout". The BENTO competition proved particularly popular, where
nearly 500 contestants showed off their sensibilities with recipes that
incorporated the five flavours saltiness, sourness, bitterness, sweetness and
umami. The competition was also held in the French "La Semaine du Gout".

Diners Club France Restaurant Week 2012
Diners Club France Restaurant
Week is an event designed to make French dining more accessible. 2012 marked its
2nd opening, with the 542 participating restaurants around the
country serving specially priced lunch and dinner courses to a total of 48,000
diners. A charity gala dinner catered for by French chefs from France and Japan
and an outdoor market of fresh produce from the Tohoku region were also held as
part of the two-week event.

La Maison du Chocolat announces Christmas and Valentine's Day collections
One of France's leading chocolat
brands La Maison du Chocolat announced new collections for the autumn/winter
seasons of 2012 to members of the press at their Aoyama boutique. In addition
to limited edition Christmas and Valentine's items, a collection of unique
objets collaborated with artist group L'atelier Hapax using La Maison du
Chocolat's ribbons and boxes was also exhibited .

S.T. Dupont announce Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart limited editions
As an homage to Audrey Hepburn
and Humphrey Bogart, both long time patrons of the brand, S.T. Dupont have
created collections that include ladies' and mens' bags, lighters and pens in
the image of the film icons. The bags are reproductions of those loved by the
two stars. For the announcement of these special editions, C.E.O. of S.T.
Dupont Alain Crevet was joined by Audrey Hepburn's son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer.

Mellerio dits Meller announces Eden Rose collection
The jewellery brand that has
been loved by many queens starting with Marie Antoinette, Mellerio dits Meller started
its history in 1613. The Eden Rose collection is the newest addition to the
Monte Rosa collection, which is inspired by the Mellerio dits Meller tiara of
wild roses and laurels, gifted to Margherita of Savoy upon her wedding in 1868.
The new designs are reminiscent of wild roses growing freely in the queen's
secret garden - elegant yet feminine. A press luncheon was held for the
announcement of the collection.

Mellerio dits Meller Launches the 2010 Jewellery Collections
One of the "Les Grand Cinq" French jewellers, Mellerio dits Meller launched their new 2010 jewellery collections. This year, they introduced three collections simultaneously. The theme for the new collections is " Homage to the Queens". Each theme of the works, including Marie Antoinette, is dedicated to those queens who engraved their names in history.
The press conference on Wednesday 19th May at Joel Robuchon at Ebisu was held in a playful atmosphere with decorations which themed Marie Antoinette's tea time. The press conference, together with the new jewellery collections, was reported widely by the media.

Zhang Ziyi Joins Omega's Event in Tokyo
On Thursday, the 22nd April, an internationally renowned actress as well as one of the ambassadors of Omega, Zhang Ziyi visited Japan. She appeared with a stunning smile on her face, whilst being welcomed by the President of Omega Swiss headquarters, Stephen Urquhart at the Nicolas G. Hayek Centre in Ginza, Tokyo.
President Urquhart and Ziyi first visited the Omega boutique on the 2nd floor, where Ziyi autographed a box for Constellation watch for which Ziyi herself appears as an advertising model. At the following event, she was welcomed enthusiastically by many attendants and attracted the flash lights by the cameras in the entire venue.

Poggenpohl, the German Luxury System Kitchen Brand, Opens a Showroom at Hiroo
Poggenphol, the German luxury system kitchen brand, opened a directly-managed showroom in Hiroo, Tokyo. This is the very first one to open in Asia and Oceania region. For the opening ceremony, Elmar Duffner, the president of Poggenpohl came to Japan and held a press conference , followed by a big opening reception in the evening.
The whole event included the live performance by the Siren String Quartet who were visiting Japan temporarily, a cooking demonstration using a Poggenpohl kitchen facility, and a charity raffle specifically for Haiti aid. It entertained the guests so much that it became a hot topic in the media.

International competition for maître d'hôtels Coupe Georges Baptiste held in Tokyo
In Michelin starred restaurants, the maître d'hôtel is considered just as significant as the chef. Coupe Georges Baptiste has a 50-year history in France, but this is the first time the competition is held in Japan. Competitors from 14 countries displayed their skills and knowledge in 9 tests, in bids to be crowned the world's best maître d'hôtel. The honour was won by a Japanese participant, attesting to the high quality of restaurant service in Japan.
